School children from across the South East have taken part in a potato growing competition. Organised by Squire’s Garden Centres, the ‘Grow Your Own Chips’ competition was held at 15 Squire’s Garden Centres across Surrey, Sussex, North and West London.
The competition began in March, when hundreds of school children from across the South East headed to their local Squire’s Garden Centre.
The gardening teams at Squire’s showed the school children how to plant their own potatoes and also how to look after them. Last month, the children were invited back to the garden centres to have their potatoes weighed and see which ones had grown the most.
Once all the potatoes had been weighed, the children were shown how to turn their potatoes into chips at the Squire’s Café Bar.
